हरिद्वार में खनन माफियाओं और गंगा प्रेमियों की बहस के बाद गंगा में हो रहे खनन को रोका गया: विरासत स्वराज यात्रा
दिनांक 23 दिसंबर 2021 को विरासत स्वराज यात्रा मातृसदन आश्रम कनखल ,हरिद्वार, उत्तराखण्ड पहुंची। यहॉं गंगा के संकट समाधान हेतु चिंतन-मंथन गोष्ठी आयोजित हुई। इस गोष्टी में देश भर से गंगा प्रेमी, नदी प्रेमी, जल बिरादरी के कार्यकर्ता और देशभर से सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता एकत्रित हुए।
मातृसदन माँ गंगा के संकट समाधान हेतु कार्य कर रहा है। मातृसदन के संस्थापक स्वामी शिवानंद सरस्वती जी ने माँ गंगा के लिए पूरा जीवन समर्पण किया है। इन्होंने अपने शिष्यों और जो भी उनसे मिलते हैं, उन सबको वह माँ गंगा के लिए काम करने के लिए प्रेरित करते रहते हैं।
गोष्टी के प्रथम सत्र में स्वामी श्री शिवानंद जी ने खनन माफियाओं और सरकारी विभागों द्वारा किए जा रहे कृत्य पर प्रकाश डालते हुए बताया कि, आज भी माँ गंगा में अवैध खनन किया जा रहा है। इसके विरूद्ध सरकार कार्यवाही नहीं कर रही है।
इसके उपरांत जलपुरुष राजेंद्र सिंह के प्रस्ताव पर सर्वसमत्ती से निर्णय लिया गया कि, आज हम सभी को खनन वाली जगह पर जाकर खनन रुकवाना चाहिए, तभी सभी गंगा प्रेमी स्वामी श्री शिवानंद जी, जलपुरुष राजेन्द्र साथ खनन वाली जगह पर पहुँचे। यहाँ पर मशीनों से माँ गंगा के पेट को चीरा जा रहा था, खनन माफिया जेसीबी से गंगा में से रेत, पत्थर बड़ी मात्रा में निकाल रहे थे।
इस दौरान खनन माफिया और गंगा प्रेमियों के बीच बहुत तीखी कहा सुनी हुई। पुलिस प्रशासन के लोगों को वहां आना पड़ा। खनन माफियों के नहीं मानने पर राजेंद्र सिंह और स्वामी श्री उसी जगह अनशन पर बैठ गए। खनन माफियाओं से जलपुरुष जी ने कहा कि, जब हम गंगा कमेटी में थे, तब कानून बनवाया था कि, माँ गंगा राष्ट्रीय नदी है और राष्ट्रीय नदी होने की वजह से मशीनों से खनन नही किया जा सकता। जिसको बाद में सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने भी इस पर मुहर लगाई है। साथ ही स्वामी श्री शिवानन्द सरस्वती जी को भी शासन और प्रशासन ने लिखित आश्वासन दिया हुआ होने के बावजूद भी अगर यह हो रहा है तो बहुत गंभीर और गलत है।
गंगा प्रेमियों और खनन माफियाओं के बीच लम्बी बहस के बाद खनन माफियों को वहाँ से भगाया गया और खनन बंद किया गया। इसके उपरांत यात्रा वहाँ से वापस आश्रम लौटी। यहाँ दूसरे सत्र में जलपुरुष राजेंद्र सिंह ने कहा कि, दुनिया में आज भी सबसे बड़ी विरासत जिस पर सबसे ज्यादा लोग अपनी आस्था, श्रद्धा, निष्ठा, भक्ति भाव से आध्यात्मिक, सांस्कृतिक और सामाजिक सरोकार के साथ सम्मान से साथ जीते हैं, वह माँ गंगा है।
आज उसी माँ गंगा पर सबसे बड़ा संकट उनके पेट में हो रहा खनन है। माँ गंगा के शरीर में जहर के गंदे नाले, इंजेक्शन के तौर पर लगाए जा रहे हैं। माँ गंगा जी के हाथ, पैर बांध दिए हैं, वह बांधों में बंधी हुई माँ गंगा आई सी यू में भर्ती है। इस गोष्टी में संजय राणा, भोपाल सिंह चौधरी, सुशीला भंडारी, आत्मबोधानंद जी, वर्षा जी, डॉ विजय, रवि चोपड़ा आदि लोग उपस्थित थे। दूसरे दिन भी यात्रा इसी गोष्टी में रहेगी।
Private companies, PSUs did not return land leased out to them: Karnataka Forest Department
Karnataka Forest Department pointed out that over 6,000 acre forest land in Bengaluru, 617.8 acre in Biligiri Ranganathaswamy Temple (BRT) Wildlife Sanctuary and more than 1,000 acre in Kodagu have been taken on lease by private companies and public sector units but never returned to the department. They also said revenue records of most of these lands are lost.
“In Kodagu, over 1,000 acre of land has been taken on lease by private companies for rubber plantations and a private multinational company has acquired 617.8 acre in BRT sanctuary and 6,000 acre in Bengaluru. The government records are lost.
Moreover, these private companies will exert political pressure and drag the department to the court where it takes several years to fight. In most of these cases, we have observed that revenue records have been tampered with,” a senior forest official said.
Recently, the Revenue Department wrote to the Forest Department to take possession of 942 acre of land developed by Tata Company as tea estates in Kodagu. The tea estates are spread across Poradu, West Nammale, T Shettigeri and Hysodluru villages in the South Kodagu.
Scientists resume tagging of Olive Ridley sea turtles along Odisha coast
Scientists have resumed tagging of Olive Ridley sea turtles at Rushikulya rookery along Odisha coast, which would help them identify the migration path and places visited by the marine reptiles after congregation and nesting.
Researchers of the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) are carrying out tagging of Olive Ridley turtles at three mass nesting sites – Gahirmatha, Devi River mouth and Rushikulya. The exercise was undertaken in Odisha in January 2021 after a span of about 25 years and 1,556 turtles had been tagged.
On Wednesday, the ZSI team tagged 22 turtles (11 male and 11 female) in association with Odisha Forest and Environment Department along the Rushikulya coast. “We are studying the path taken by turtles in the sea, if they keep coming to one nesting site for laying eggs, and the number of sites they visit over the years. Besides, the growth of turtles could be measured during the current study,” said Anil Mohapatra, ZSI scientist, who leads the research team at Gopalpur, on Thursday.
The metal tags affixed to turtles are non-corrosive and they do not harm their body. The metal can be removed later. The tags are uniquely numbered containing details such as name of organisation, country-code and email address. “If researchers in other countries come across the tagged turtles, they would email their location in longitude and latitude to us. It would help us know their location. There is an established network working on turtles,” said the scientist.
“We intend to tag 30,000 turtles over a period of 10 years. Last year, the turtles did not come for mass nesting to Rushikulya so we could not carry out much tagging. In Gahirmatha, 1,000 turtles were tagged last year. We can scale up tagging up to 10,000 in a year if proper mass nesting takes place,” he said.
Mangaluru woman feeds 800 stray dogs daily: Karnataka
Animal lover Rajni Shetty and her husband has devoted their life to stray animals, mostly feeding, giving shelter and treating them in their Mangaluru house.
“We feed 800 stray dogs every day and look after dozens of dogs, cats, rabbits, birds in our house. We are also providing treatment to the injured animals”, said Rajni Shetty. Rajni’s bond with animals started 15 years ago with feeding stray dogs and at present, she mothers 800 dogs with public support.
“I bring helpless animals to my house for treatment. We go to feed dogs after 8 pm every day so that none of them faces any problem due to vehicles. My husband, family and the public support me”, said Rajni.
Assam assembly allows seizure of properties of those accused of illegal cow trade
The Assam assembly on Thursday passed an amendment to the Assam Cattle Preservation Act empowering the police to enter the house of an accused and inspect, search and seize properties acquired in the last six years with money reportedly earned from illegal cattle trade.
Amid heated debate in the assembly, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said he wants to convey the message that Assam is a “tough state” while dealing with unlawful cattle trade. A new section is proposed to be inserted in the Act, that empowers an investigating officer to enter, inspect, search, seize and detain an accused and his/her movable or immovable properties accumulated in the previous six years with the income from illegal cattle trade.
On August 13, the assembly had passed The Assam Cattle Preservation Bill, 2021, banning cattle slaughter and sale of beef in areas where Hindus, Jains and Sikhs are in a majority or within a five-kilometre radius of a temple or satra (Vaishnavite monasteries) or any other institution as maybe prescribed by authorities.
